Onboard camera lights have a variety of powering options, and which one you should choose is dependant on your camcorder model or battery style. Some camera lights which are designed to work with smaller, hand-held palmcorders can accept the same model battery as your camcorder, with the battery attaching to the light directly. Other lights have their own battery which is either belt- or shoulder-worn. The most basic lights do not offer much control and are typically 10w or 20w switchable. More advanced on-camera lights have inbuilt diffusers, dichroic filters, barndoors and controllable dimmers.
High Powered Camera Lamps
Larger, on-shoulder camcorders which are powered by V-Lock or Gold Mount batteries usually have a 2 pin D-Tap connection, which allows your camera to power the light from either the battery mount plate or the camcorders D-Tap power connector. Many of these lights will fit to the shoe mount found on your camera.
