The new Sony HXR-MC1P is the long awaitied replacement to the Sony DSR-V10P/CVX-3 which was discontinued in 2003. This exciting new camera provides a HD solution for a wide variety of environments, and is ideal for tough outdoor requirements. The camera is splash proof, allowing safe use in rainy conditions or when shooting near water.
The Sony HXR-MC1P is a compact HD camera with a small touch screen control panel. This unique solution gives you the flexibility of shooting in unusual conditions form new and exciting angles. The HXR-MC1P can be used as a helmet cam for cyclists or snowboarders, or onboard with motor sports. The control panel has a built in LCD panel which gives the user the option of immediately viewing their footage.
The Sony HVR-MC1P is equipped with a full HD 1920 x 1080i capability, 10x optical zoom and a built in microphone. The footage records on to Memory Stick PRO Duo™ and the highly efficient compression rates in SD and HD mode, allow long recording times. (recording times can be found in the attached pdf). In HD mode, the video is recorded in AVCHD , which uses MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 compression - The same method used in Blu-Ray Disc™. In SD mode, the camera uses MPEG-2 compression.

The HXR-MC1P uses a 1/5" Emoor CMOS sensor which is also used in Sony professional camcorders and high end Digital SLR cameras. This acjieves low noise thanks to multiple A/D (Analogue to Digital) converters. The imager in the HXR-MC1P also uses the ClearVid pixel array, which has 45-degree rotated pixels. This unique layout offers high picture quality, while keeping low light sensitivity.
