Product Information

Sony HVR-Z7E HDV Handheld Camcorder with interchangeable lens

The launch of the HVR-Z7E camcorder from Sony has introduced some amazing features to the professional palmcorder range. The interchangeable lens option gives the user the flexibility of utilising existing or new lenses to enhance their shooting options and the new Hybrid function allows you to record on to tape and Compact Flash independantly, or simutaneously.

The camcorder combines a host of features that make it the best and most affordable HDV camcorder on the market. Making the most of the new 1/3” ClearVid CMOS sensors combined with true 1080/25p, means this new camcorder will deliver unprecedented results.

The Carl Zeiss lens uses Sony’s new 1/3” CMOS sensor system which is enhanced by the Exmortechnology. The unique column-parallel analogue to digital conversion technique found in the Exmor technology, produces high quality digital signals with extremely low noise. This system is similar to the imaging technology used in the new Sony PMW-EX1 camcorder.

The introduction and combination of the new technologies has made a great improvement in the Z7’s low light level capabilities with a sensitivity of 1.5 lux.

To compliment the improvements made in the image capability, the HVR-Z7 comes equipped with the Enhanced Image ProcessorSystem to achieve high resolution, high sensitivity, wide dynamic range, and excellent colour reproduction.

The exciting breakthrough with the HVR-Z7E is the ability to attach different lenses. Equipped with a universal 1/3” bayonet mount mechanism, lens changes can be made quickly and easily. The camcorder is supplied with the high standard Carl Zeiss 12x lens which gives the Z7 the same functionality as its popular predecessors the HVR-V1E and HVR-Z1E. The built in auto focus, optical stabiliser, and automatic back focus adjustment will be familiar to users of these cameras.

Improvements have also been made to the design of the zoom, focus and iris rings which give the cameraman the option of using this camcorder in a more hands on way than ever before. The new focus ring offers two types of manual focus, plus an auto focus mode that can easily be switched by sliding the focus ring backwards or forwards. The zoom ring has gearwheel mechanism and the focus ring now encircles the lens barrel.

There is also a special adaptor that will allow you to use the lens series designed for Sony Digital SLR cameras.

The HVR-Z7E retains all the flexibility in recording formats that you have come to expect from the Sony range. The camcorder offers 1080/50i and 25p native progressive recordings. The CMOS sensor system and Enhanced Image Processor create true 1080p images which can then be recorded as progressive signals in the HDV format.

The Z7 can switch between 1080i and 1080p in the HDV format, and can also recorder in DVCAM and DV. It can also down convert the signal from HD to SD through its I.LINK interface and comes equipped with an HDMI output.

Another unique feature to the new Sony camcorder is that it offers the option of hybrid recording with the supplied memory recording unit which attaches directly to the back of the unit. The unit directly synchronizes with the recording format and connects via a special shoe connector which inputs and outputs an HDV/DV stream and supplies power to the unit. This allows you to capture HDV 1080i, DVCAM and DV signals direct to a CompactFlash® solid state memory card whilst simultaneously recording to tape. The recording times on an 8 & 16 GB CompactFlash card in HDV, DVCAM and DV format are approximately 36 and 72 minutes respectively.

The Sony HDV HVR-Z7E can also be known as (HVRZ7E, HVR Z7E, HRV-Z7E, HVR-ZE7, HDV Camcorder, HDV Broadcast)
