Formatt 4x4 Polariser Filter

Polarising filters are used to eliminate surface reflections, glare or hotspots from any light source. They also darken blue skies and increase colour saturation. Polarisers are ideal when photographing into water or through glass.

Formatt's Crown Polariser enables you to achieve a level of optical performance previously unavailable. The polarising film is fabricated between two pieces of Formatt's crystal clear white water optical glass. The absolute clarity of the glass combined with advanced polarising material make crown Polarising filters particularly effective on demanding scenes.

  • Reduce glare and unwanted reflections
  • Saturate colours
  • Deepen blue skies
  • Improved contrast

When ordering please specify your type of Polarising Filter from the drop down menu:

Linear
The linear polarizer is the standard polarizing filter, and is an essential outside all-purpose filter. It deepens skies and minimizes reflections.

This filter is typically rotated to achieve the required effect; for this purpose you should ensure that your matte box has at least one rotating filter tray, and make sure when purchasing circular filters that you buy a polarizer with a rotating ring.

Circular
The circular polarizer filter produces the same effect as a linear polarizer filter, but is used in cameras where polarizing elements are used in the beam-splitters of the camera. If using a linear polarizer with such cameras, the light can become cross polarized (giving the same effect as using two polarizers together).

Circular polarizers are made from a different polarizing material than linear and will usually prevent the cross polarization.

Note that circular polarizers may only be used one way in front of the lens and are marked accordingly.

Warm Linear
This filter combines the 81EF with the linear polarizer, and is an essential outside all-purpose filter. It deepens skies and minimizes reflections, as well as warming the image. It is typically rotated to achieve the required effect; for this purpose you should ensure that your matte box has at least one rotating filter tray, and make sure that when purchasing circular filters that you buy a polarizer with a rotating ring.

85 Linear
This filter combines the 85 with the linear polarizer, and is an essential outside all-purpose filter. It deepens skies and minimizes reflections, as well as warming the image. It is typically rotated to achieve the required effect; for this purpose you should ensure that your matte box has at least one rotating filter tray, and make sure that when purchasing circular filters that you buy a polarizer with a rotating ring
