Most DV/HDV style Palmcorders incorporate a jack remote or Lanc connection which can accommodate a remote controller.
With Sony and Canon, the control connection is known as a LANC connection.
Panasonic has a different connection simply marked as 'Remote', but this is not a LANC connection and you can damage your camcorder by connecting a LANC controller to it.
LANC or Remote Camcorder Connection
Lanc connections available on the vast majority of Sony and Canon camcorders allow both the zoom and focus to be controlled as well as record stop/start. Panasonic camcorder control varies depending upon the model of camcorder and some camcorders only facilitate a zoom and record remote function whilst the HVX200/201 models can accept Zoom, record and Iris control. Please note that a Lanc controller is unsuitable for Panasonic camcorders as they have a different connection. See the Panasonic section above for more information.
DV/HDV Controllers are usually mounted on a tripod pan bar, Stabiliser or Jib and are manufactured by Varizoom, Manfrotto, Libec and Bebob. All controller cables can be extended for use with Jibs or Specialist applications.
