The HDW range offers the user both playback and record functionality to bring the HDCAM production chain to an end. The machines concentrate on the frame rates used for worldwide TV distribution but can playback other frame rates giving a progressive scanned output.
Sony introduced HDCAM in 1997 as a HD version of their popular Digital Betacam format. Cameras in the range include the HDW-F900R and the HDW-750PC.
