Beyond Three Point Lighting - A Personal View By A Lighting Director

We are delighted that Iain Davidson (Lighting Director for Thronecast & the Ryder Cup) will be joining us for an exclusive workshop on lighting held here at ProAV. Iain will take attendee's through his concepts on lighting, from the qualities he looks for in a key light, to working with natural light. He also will guide us through his approach to studio based multi-camera shoots like Thronecast, how to get the best results and what you need to consider when designing the lighting.

This is a fantastic chance to develop your skills in lighting for all kinds of video production.

Who is Iain Davidson?

Iain has been lighting since the age of 16, first in theatre before working for the BBC for 26 years. 8 years at Sky followed and then he has been working as a freelance director for the last two years. He started as a vision engineer at the BBC before becoming one of their youngest lighting directors at 28. Several years were spent working on location for a children's drama Byker Grove. Later he became BBC training's lighting specialist delivering courses in many parts of the UK and abroad as well as spending time as a Unit Manager for BBC OBs.

During his time at Sky Iain was involved in many projects including a series of live dramas for which he won a Knight of Illumination award. He also helped to design and build one of the first all LED studios.

Iain is a long term member of the Society of Television Lighting Directors as well as serving on the committee editing the journal Television Lighting. Most recently he has been lighting the Game of Thrones fan show Thronecast and the Open Golf and Ryder Cup presentation studio for Sky.
