The Kinefinity TERRA 4K has been a very exciting camera, ever since we first got our hands on it over a year ago, the small form factor, modularity and great range of codecs are fantastic. Even since day one, the TERRA 4K has had some very strong slow motion capabilities, even in 4K. But at NAB this year Kinefinity revealed that they're giving out a free firmware update to the TERRA 4K that pushes those framerates even further, essentially making the TERRA 4K one of the best sub £5k cameras to offer cinematic high frame rates.
We took the camera out to test out the new framerates, you can see the footage we got in the video above, but in this video, we mainly shot in DCI 4K at 125fps, and 2K at 240fps.
So here is the breakdown of the new framerates and resolutions (you can of course still record all framerates and resolutions in either ProRes or cDNG.
- Open Gate: 4096x2700, 100fps
- DCI 4K (4096x2160) & UHD (3840x2160), 125fps
- 4K Wide: 4096x1720, 150fps
- 4K HD Wide: 3840x1600, 160fps
- 3K: 3072x1620, 160fps
- 3K Wide: 3072x1200, 200fps
- 2K (2048x1080) & FHD (1920x1080) 240fps
- 2K wide: 2048x860, 300fps
- FHD wide: 1920x800, 320fps
These new framerates are of course very welcome, and its fantastic to see Kinefinity to continute to push the TERRA 4K past the already impressive specs that it origionally had. It's also very welcome to see this update to be given out for free.
If you're a Terra 4K owner, you can download the free firmware update (KineOS 6.2) for the Terra 4K here.
