Blackmagic have announced the Pocket Cinema Camera 6K. A Super35mm, 6k resolution version of their popular Pocket Cinema Camera 4K, with a EF mount.
Cinematic Super 35mm Sensor
The BMPCC 6K has a Super35mm sensor measuring 23.10mm x 12.99 with 6144 x 3456 resolution. With the full size of the sensor, this would mean a crop factor of 1.558x. This is significantly bigger than the MFT 18.96mm x 10mm sensor on the BMPCC 4K, but interestingly it is slightly smaller than the 25.34mm x 14.25mm sensor on the Ursa Mini Pro G2.
This new sensor has 13 stops of Dynamic Range and the same dual native ISO values of 400 and 3200 as the Blackmagic Pocket 4K.
Interestingly, Blackmagic have chosen to go with the EF mount, similar to their URSA Mini Pro G2. With its larger super 35mm sensor, EF was a better choice than MFT, but this change of mount may be frustrating for people who want to use a mixture of the Pocket 4K and Pocket 6K in their work. That being said though, a lot of BMPCC 4K customers do use a Metabones Speedbooster to give their camera an EF mount rather than using actual MFT lenses. Plus this new Pocket 6K will be a fantastic B-Camera for URSA mini pro users who will already be using EF S35 glass.
This EF mount is a fully active mount which will control the aperture and focus on the lens, as well as power IS functions.
