The C500 MK II is Canon's first camera to support user interchangeable lens mounts. Canon has had cameras with different lens mounts before, but if you wanted to swap the mount, it would have to go in for a service to do so. But now with the Canon C500 Mark II, you can swap the mount out in a matter of minutes, in a really simple process.
To change the mount, you just need to remove the four screws on the mount with an allen key, then the mount will come loose and you can easily slot in the new mount and screw it back on. Thanks to solid metal locator pins on the camera side, and recessed pins for lens communication on both the camera and the mount, there is little chance of damage being done here as its just as simple as slotting the mount on and securing it with those four screws.
There are currently three lens mounts available for the C500 MK II, regular EF mount, a Cine Locking style EF mount, and a PL mount. So, why are user interchangeable lens mounts such a big deal? Well if you're an owner/operator you might not always want to be stuck to one lens mount, being able to swap out mounts allows you to step up from EF lenses to higher-end and much nicer PL lenses for higher production value jobs, rather than having to either buy or rent another camera for a job where you want to use PL lenses. Being able to choose between the speed of a normal EF mount, and the sturdiness of a locking EF mount is always great to see.
