Sigma E Mount Lenses for the FX9

 Sigma 24-70

Sigma 14-24

The Sigma 14-24mm and 24-70mm are Sigmas first zoom lenses to be designed for mirrorless cameras. For many, the Sigma E mount lenses will be the road to go down, they're sharp, fast and currently, more affordable than the Sony counterparts.

Perfect for the FX9

But where we see these lenses catching peoples eyes the most, is for use with the FX9. Being able to use the auto focus with these Sigma lenses means that they are genuine competition for Sony G Master lenses. We've put together a few quick tests in the video above, but the Sigma’s hold up really well!

Sigma has a great representation for image quality and from looking at the footage from these lenses, it’s easy to see why. Both the Sigma 24-70mm and 14-24mm are sharp with lovely rendition in the outer focus areas.

Focus

The focus throw on the Sigma lenses is much longer than on the Sony, which to me is preferable as it allows for more finite control of focus when you want to pull manually. Focus breathing seems very under control which is great to see.

Autofocus is becoming more and more relevant nowadays, despite most of us being taught to always focus manually. But for interviews and talking heads, autofocus is fantastic. The Sigma 24-70 performs almost as well as the Sony 24-70, the Sony does seem a little more 'refined'. But considering the price difference, you can't really complain, plus we're hopeful that Sigma will be able to tweak how their lenses work with the FX9 in the future.
